Experience & Leadership
True leadership inspires as well as guides. Jim Barr's "hand's on" leadership style will bring together the best resources and build effective teams to grapple with the challenging tasks facing our schools.
Jim feels strongly that now is the time to "raise the bar" in Bay District Schools . . .
- In professionalism at every level, most specifically, in increasing the quality of education directly measurable in student achievement.
- In community relations directly measurable in community involvement and collaboration in educational initiatives.
- In business practices directly measurable in return on investment-a day's worth of learning for every school day, a dollar's worth of learning for every dollar spent.
- In academic community building directly measurable in teacher satisfaction, a sense of family among educators, recruitment of new teachers, and retention of veteran teachers.
- In outreach to the specially challenged directly measurable in more productive lives for those who need our attention the most.
Vision Matters
A clear vision for our children and schools must drive all our planning and programs. Jim Barr's leadership will provide the practical, common-sense vision necessary for the future of our students, teachers, and community.
- For our students, we must strive to bring every resource to bear to ensure quality learning and adequate preparation for life.
- For our teachers, we must empower these dedicated professionals with the tools they need to produce the highest levels of student achievement.
- For our community, we must guarantee that our graduates will emerge as fully functioning citizens, well-equipped to work and lead our community into the future.
Fiscal Responsibility
The measure of leadership is accomplishing the greatest good in times of limited resources. Jim Barr's "compassionate conservativism" will strive for cost-saving business practices without forgetting the human face of our school district's mission.
Data-Driven Decision-Making
Our schools gather a wealth of data about student backgrounds and performance. I want to see data used to drive decision making. Raw data must be interpreted into meaningful information, and this information must be shared with the entire educational community. Collectively, we must draw on this data to learn the lessons of the past, to spot significant trends and change, and to shape our plans for the future.
Safe, Clean, Well-Maintained Schools
Our schools and grounds must be kept clean and well-maintained with a positive attitude that is conducive for maximum learning. Our schools must be safe havens for learning. Our classrooms, our hallways, and our parking lots must be drug-free and weapons-free zones. School safety and school maintenance is everybody's business.
Consistent, Responsible, "Top-to-Bottom" Business Practices
While educating our children is a life mission, a "higher calling," managing schools and the school district is a business. Bay District Schools must operate on sound business and financial practices at every level. We need clear and consistent business practices that are clearly and consistently applied in all our schools. Student performance is the best indicator of our success. Fiscal responsibility is a means to the end of this great goal.
